Transfer From Another University

Please note that the maximum number of credits eligible for transfer is 42 units.

If you would like to transfer to DeGroote’s commerce program from another university, please review the requirements on this page and then apply using the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) Undergraduate Application by April 1.

Students from other universities are only allowed to apply for transfer to either first year (Business I) or second year (Commerce II) of the program.

Transfer Credit

Whether or not you can receive transfer credits for courses taken at other universities will be determined after McMaster’s registrar’s office has received your complete application. Transcript assessment is not done until all application materials, including an assessment fee, have been received.

Requirements

The commerce program only admits a limited number of students each year. To be considered, you need to meet the following criteria.

High School Requirements

You must have completed these high school (grade 12) requirements (or their equivalents).

  • Advanced Functions (MFH4U)
  • Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U)

Requirements for Transfer to First Year (Business I)

In addition to the high school requirements, you must also meet the following university criteria.

  • Completion of at least 24 – 30 units during the fall and winter semesters (September to April).
  • Cumulative average of at least 80% (A-).
  • First priority will be given to students who have not failed, repeated, and/or upgraded any university course(s).

Please note that a maximum of 12 units of transfer credit will be given to students entering Business 1.

Requirements for Transfer to Second Year (Commerce II)

In addition to the high school requirements, you must also meet the following university criteria.

  • Completion of 24 – 30 units during the fall and winter semesters (September to April).
  • Cumulative average of at least 80% (A-).
  • First priority will be given to students who have not failed, repeated, and/or upgraded any university course(s).

The 30 units you completed must include 6 out of 7 of these courses (or equivalents) with a minimum grade of 60%:

  • Commerce 1AA3 – Financial Accounting
  • Commerce 1BA3 – Organizational Behaviour
  • Commerce 1DA3 – Business Data Analytics
  • Commerce 1MA3 – Introduction to Marketing
  • Economics 1B03 – Introductory Microeconomics
  • Economics 1BB3 – Introductory Macroeconomics
  • Mathematics 1MM3 – Applied Calculus
    • We will accept the following as an equivalent to Math 1MM3:
    • Math 1M03
    • Math 1A03
    • Math 1LS3
    • Math 1X03
    • Math 1ZA3

Please note that a maximum of 42 units of transfer credit will be given to students entering Commerce II
