Transfer from Another University

If you would like to transfer to DeGroote’s commerce program from another university, please review the requirements on this page and then apply using the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre 105 application by April 1.

Official high school and university transcripts (and TOEFL scores, if required) should be sent directly to this address:

Students from other universities are only allowed to apply for transfer to either first year (Business I) or second year (Commerce II) of the program.

Transfer Credit

Whether or not you can receive transfer credits for courses taken at other universities can be determined after McMaster’s registrar’s office has received your complete application. Transcript assessment is not done until all application materials, including an assessment fee, have been received.

Requirements

The commerce program only admits a limited number of students each year. To be considered, you need to meet the following criteria.

High School Requirements

You must have completed these high school (grade 12) requirements (or their equivalents).

  • Advanced Functions (MFH4U)
  • Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U)
  • Mathematics of Data Management U (MDM4U)

Requirements for Transfer to First Year (Business I)

In addition to the high school requirements, you must also meet the following university criteria.

  • Completion of at least 24 – 30 units during the fall and winter semesters (September to April).
  • Cumulative average of at least 7.0 (70%).
  • First priority will be given to students who have not failed, repeated, and/or upgraded any university course(s).

You cannot transfer to Business I if you have already completed a year equivalent to Business I at another university.

Please note that the maximum number of credits eligible for transfer is 12 units.

Requirements for Transfer to Second Year (Commerce II)

In addition to the high school requirements, you must also meet the following university criteria.

  • Completion of 24 – 30 units during the fall and winter semesters (September to April).
  • Cumulative average of at least 7.0 (70%).
  • First priority will be given to students who have not failed, repeated, and/or upgraded any university course(s).

The 30 units you completed must include these courses (or equivalents):

  • Commerce 1AA3 – Financial Accounting
  • Commerce 1BA3 – Organizational Behaviour
  • Economics 1B03 (Introductory Microeconomics)
  • Economics 1BB3 (Introductory Macroeconomics)
  • Mathematics 1MO3 (Calculus for Business, Humanities and the Social Sciences)

If you did not complete Mathematics of Data Management U or OAC Finite Mathematics (or their equivalents) in high school, you must also have taken a university course equivalent to Statistics 1L03 (Probability and Linear Algebra).

Please note that the maximum number of credits eligible for transfer is 42 units.
