These courses are for students pursuing the CPA designation through the Legacy CA-accredited program.

Courses

BUS & COM 500 (COMM 4AG3)– Advanced Accounting Topics

This course extends the knowledge base of earlier accounting courses and deals with specific advanced accounting topics, such as the conceptual framework, standard setting, not-for-profit accounting and fiduciary accounting.

Prerequisite: COMMERCE 4AC3, 4AF3 and registration in any commerce or Engineering and Management program or graduation from a commerce program.

BUS & COM 501 (COMM 4AH3) — Advanced Auditing

This course considers a number of advanced topics concerning both the auditor and the audit profession.  It builds on the knowledge of the audit task derived in earlier courses as well as on the technical skills and breadth of knowledge obtained in earlier accounting courses.

Prerequisite:  COMMERCE 4AD3 and registration in any commerce or an Engineering and Management program or graduation from a commerce program.

BUS & COM 503 (COMM 4AJ3) — Financial Reporting And Analysis

The course is designed to provide you with an advanced conceptual background and analytical tools necessary to evaluate financial statements issued by publicly held enterprises.  It focuses on understanding the uses and the limitations of both the financial statements and the traditional and non-traditional methods used in analyzing them.

Prerequisite: COMMERCE 4AC3, 4AF3 and registration in any commerce or Engineering and Management program or graduation from a commerce program.

Admission

In order to be admitted into these courses, an applicant must meet the following requirements:

  • Receipt of a completed application. Applications must be submitted to the Student Experience – Academic Office (DSB 112) by January 31, 2017.
  • Receipt of a post-dated cheque (April 30th, 2017) made out to McMaster University for the sum covering the course fees.
  • Verification that pre-requisite courses have successfully been completed.
  • If you are not a graduate or student from McMaster University, please include your most recent official transcript for verification purposes.

Please note that placement in these courses will be prioritized as follows:

  1. 2017 graduates of the DeGroote School of Business
  2. DeGroote in-course Commerce and MBA students
  3. DeGroote School of Business alumni
  4. Others

Tuition & Fees

$1100 tuition per course plus $21 supplementary fees per course for a total of $1121 per course (2016 figures)

Enrolment

These courses are offered independently through the DeGroote School of Business. This means the regular Mosaic system will not be used for enrolment. (Enrolment form available here after January 5th.)

Students who have applied for the Graduate Diploma in Professional Accountancy program, are not required to complete an application form for the Summer Accounting Courses.  Students who do not qualify for the Graduate Diploma program, will have their applications considered for the Summer Accounting Courses automatically.  A post-dated check must be submitted to the Student Experience – Academic Office by April 30, 2017.

A minimum of 25 enrolments will be required in each course in order for the course to be offered. A maximum of 45 students may enrol for each section. Available summer courses are subject to sufficient enrolments and the availability of qualified instructors. These courses are subject to cancellation by the DeGroote School of Business.
