Internship Program

Our DeGroote School of Business Internship Program stands as Ontario’s largest for undergraduate business students, welcoming more than 240 students annually.

Over 25 Years of the Undergraduate Internship Program

Choosing the options of a Honours Bachelor of Commerce with Internship, or Honours Integrated Business and Humanities (IBH) with Internship gives you the unique opportunity to develop hands-on experience with an employer for a work term that lasts between 12 and 16 months. Internships begin anytime between May and September following your third year of studies.

Internship Eligibility

Getting Started with the Internship Program

To participate in the internship program, you must:

  • Complete an admission application and interview
  • Have completed the Career Development Course (Commerce 2IN0)
  • Be a full-time student enrolled in Level III
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 7.0 after Level II
  • Return from your internship with a minimum of 18 units left to complete your degree

DeGroote students who are going out on exchange are still eligible to participate in the internship program. For more details, visit the Academic Calendar.

Internship Timing

You apply to the Commerce with Internship or IBH with Internship degree program in the Summer following Level 2. 

With the support of the Career and Professional Development team, students search for an internship throughout the Level 3 academic year. 

Internships begin anytime between May and September following your third year of studies. The internship pathway extends your degree program by one year and provides you with real-world experience, critical thinking skills, enhanced leadership qualities, and better business acumen – setting you up for success upon graduation.

Annual Application Windows

 

Early May Register on OSCARplus for online Q&A sessions about the Internship program and admissions process.
Mid-May The admission portal opens in OSCARplus to apply.
Mid-late May Virtual interview links will be sent to eligible applicants. Candidates will have 72 hours to complete the interview assessment.
June – August All academic requirements, applications, and interviews will be assessed by the DeGroote team.
Mid-August Admission offers are extended to successful candidates.

Career Development Course (Commerce 2IN0)

This Career Development Course is designed to equip you with the tools necessary to successfully participate in summer, internship, and full-time job searches.

If you are participating in the Commerce with Internship or IBH with Internship degree program, you are required to complete the Commerce 2IN0 – Career Development Course in Level 2. Delivered by the Career and Professional Development team and supported by Career Peer Mentors, this workshop-based course covers a variety of topics, including: 

  • Self-assessment and skill identification 
  • Cover letter and resume preparation 
  • Interview skills 
  • Job search strategies 
  • LinkedIn and networking 
  • Professionalism and etiquette 

Commerce 2IN0 is offered in Winter and Spring terms and is available for enrollment on MOSAIC. See the Academic Calendar for more details.
