International Students Frequently Asked Questions

Choosing to apply to a program can leave you with some questions; we’ve answered a variety of the most common ones below.

Regardless of your program, Commerce or Integrated Business and Humanities, you will graduate with a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree.

Both the Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) and Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degrees are recognized university Business degrees and cover the same foundational Business courses. It is only the preference of the University as to how to name their degree.

If you are studying a curriculum outside of the standard Ontario high school curriculum, please review admission requirements using the search tool here.

If you are an international student studying the standard Ontario high school curriculum, the following applies:

  • For our Commerce program, you are required to complete six 4U/M courses, including both Advanced Functions and Calculus and Vectors Grade 12 U level math, as well as Grade 12 U level English. These courses are included in your admission average along with your next top three best grade 12 M or U level grades.
  • For our Integrated Business and Humanities program, you are required to complete six 4U/M courses, including Calculus and Vectors Grade 12 U level math and Grade 12 U level English. These courses are included in your admission average along with your next top four best grade 12 M or U level grades.

The anticipated admission average for the Commerce program is in the mid to high 80s.

The anticipated admission average for the Integrated Business and Humanities program is between 88 and 92% with heavy influence from the supplementary application.

International Students Awards

Entrance awards are awards for incoming students based on merits like academics, community involvement, or leadership. Some entrance awards are automatic but others require an application through McMaster’s AwardSpring platform (available after you apply and get your MacID).
